SEWARD, Neb. – The 2026 CUNE Collegiate Powerlifting Meet will kick off the 2026-27 season for Concordia University, Nebraska Powerlifting. The Bulldogs will welcome athletes from Midland University and York University for Saturday’s showcase scheduled for a 9 a.m. CT start inside the Walz Fieldhouse. A field of 40 lifters is expected for the occasion, which will run through the early afternoon. Powerlifting athletes compete in bench, deadlift and squat.

The competition will mark the start of year five of the powerlifting program’s existence at Concordia. The Bulldogs polished off year four with 19 athletes in action at the 2026 Collegiate Powerlifting National Championships in the New Orleans area. Four of those athletes earned All-America awards: Taylor Hedke (second), Will Peterson (second), Teya Badger (third) and Wyatt Hosick (third). From a team perspective, Concordia placed fifth on the women’s side and sixth on the men’s side at the national meet. The women earned a team banner for finishing in the top five.
Head Coach Freddie Myles will use the season opening meet to break in six freshmen. Meanwhile, the returners will wait until the Central Collegiate Cup Series on Nov. 21-22 before making their season debuts. The 2027 USA Powerlifting Collegiate National Championships will take place in Sioux Falls, S.D., April 8-11. Added to Myles’ staff for this year is assistant coach Desmond Cooney, the owner of Team Outlier.
