Concordia and #11 Bethel University play to 0-0 tie at Midland Tournament
The Bulldog men’s soccer team played to a 0-0 tie with #11 Bethel University (Tenn.) on Sunday afternoon at the Midland University Tournament. Concordia now sits at 3-1-1 on the year, while Bethel moved to 1-1-2 on the season.
The match featured nine yellow cards and a Bethel University red card in the 81st minute. The teams combined for 35 fouls in the match. The Wildcats held a 19-6 shot advantage and finished with 10 shots on goal compared to just four for Concordia.
The Bulldog defense stayed strong, however, and goalie Chris Podlich (Brisbane, Australia) made 10 saves on the day. Jonathan Avalos (Napa, Calif.) led the Bulldogs with two shots on goal. Nathan Douglas (Winnipeg, Can.) and Ian Euler (Lincoln, Neb.) also had shots on goal for Concordia.
Stefan Zalad made four saves for Bethel University. Dwayne Smith had a match-best three shots on goal for the Wildcats.
Concordia returns home to host Sterling College on September 17.
