Late goal gives Mount Marty 2-1 win over Concordia
Mount Marty’s Tyler Neu scored with less than two minutes remaining in the game, and the Lancers picked up a 2-1 men’s soccer win over Concordia on Saturday afternoon. The Lancers improved to 5-9 overall and picked up their first conference win of the season (1-7) with the victory. Concordia slipped to 7-5-2 overall and 4-3 in conference play with the loss.
Juan De La Cruz put Mount Marty on top 1-0 with a goal in the fifth minute of the game. The opening goal was scored following a corner kick by Jose Rocha.
Concordia’s Tyler Groskurth scored to tie the game at 1-1 in the second half. Neu scored the game-winner in the 88th minute, and the Lancers held on for the victory.
The Bulldogs held a slim 18-15 advantage in shots. Mount Marty had eight corner kicks compared to five for Concordia. Diego Ortiz made seven saves and picked up the win in goal for the Lancers. Blake Studer made six saves but suffered the loss for the Bulldogs.
Concordia travels to Doane College for a key GPAC contest on October 20.
