SEWARD, Neb. – Dre Williams was honored with the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week by the league office on Tuesday (Oct. 10). Williams, a junior, from Ontario, Canada, kicked in both Concordia goals in the 2-1 win at Jamestown on Saturday (Oct. 7). He recorded the game winner in the 83rd minute and tallied three goals and two assists on the season for an unbeaten Bulldog squad.
Dre Williams was vital to the comeback win in Jamestown. In the 48th minute, Williams was close to seven yards outside of the penalty area, before striking the ball from the far side of the field, all the way to the near corner for the early second half equalizer. Needing another goal to bring home three points, Williams kicked a low ball with his right foot as it sailed past the keeper for the late game winner.
The first year transfer from Tyler Junior college has gotten more and more comfortable in the Concordia offense as the season has progressed. He has grown from having limited minutes to being a force in the attacking third for head coach Jason Weides.
Williams found his first point in the York match assisting a goal for Victor Meneses. Given the nod by coach Weides, he took advantage of the penalty kick against Mount Marty for his first goal as a Bulldog.
Concordia (11-0-2, 5-0-2) will have a midweek break before travelling to Hastings (4-6-2, 3-2-1 GPAC) next weekend. First kick is set for 5:30 p.m. CT on Saturday (Oct. 14) at Lloyd Wilson Field.
