5-7 SEP 2007
The Concordia University, Nebraska men's soccer team is still searching for their first win, suffering a pair of setbacks this week. On Wednesday the Bulldogs dropped a tight contest, 2-1, to York College, before falling by the same score to Ottawa University on Friday night at Bulldog Stadium.
The Bulldogs (0-5-0, 0-0-0 GPAC) played short handed for over half of the game after a red card to Alex Jorgensen at the 32:08 mark.
Despite being a man down Concordia was able to score a goal as senior Tyler Barry scored on a Kraig Hein corner kick to tie the game, 1-1. York scored what proved to be the winning goal with one second left in the first half.
Neither team was able to score in the second frame.
Against Ottawa both teams struggled to find the back of the net throughout the first half, playing to a 0-0 tie. The Braves opened the scoring in the second half as Andy Moore scored on a free kick to the back corner of the net.
Ottawa stretched their lead to 2-0 with just over 20 minutes left in the game. The Bulldogs cut into the lead with 10 minutes left, as freshman Anthony Reichwaldt scored of a pass from Richard Rattray. An all-state goalkeeper at Lincoln East, Reichwaldt, played forward for most of the game showing his versatility.

Bulldogs get first win, upsetting No. 25 Midland
20 SEP 2007
The Concordia University, Nebraska men's soccer team picked up their first win of the season and in a big way on Thursday night, downing Midland Lutheran College, 3-1. The Warriors came into the game ranked No. 25 in the latest NAIA Poll and second in NAIA Region III.
All of Bulldogs (1-6, 1-1 GPAC) offense came from the foot of Arturo Vega. The freshman from El Paso, Texas finished the contest with a hat trick, his first as a Bulldog. Midland (6-1, 0-1 GPAC) falls for the first time this season.
Vega got the Bulldogs on the board with a goal at the 40th minute thanks to a well placed pass by sophomore Richard Rattray. Rattray fed the ball through on a short pass, finding Vega alone in the middle with an empty net in front of him.
Rattray also had a hand in the second goal, feeding Vega on an outlet down the sideline. Vega then went to work, driving towards the net, but pulled up and fired strike from 18-yards out that bent perfectly to the far top corner. Vega's final goal came on a free kick after yellow card was handed out on Midland, just outside the box. The kick was very simliar to his second goal, bending to the top shelf out of reach of the keeper.
Not to be overshadowed by Vega's hat trick is the play of Bulldog goalie, freshman Anthony Reichwaldt. Midland outshot Concordia on the night finishing with 23 shots, 11 on goal, compared to just 11 shots (six on goal) for the Bulldogs. But Reichwaldt came up with big saves time after time. In all he totaled 10 saves.
The lone Midland goal was scored by Danny Zuckweiler with less than two minutes remaining in the game.
Concordia continues conference play this weekend, traveling to Orange City, Iowa to take on the Northwestern College Red Raiders in a 3:30 p.m. contest.

Arturo, a freshman from El Paso, Texas, helped guide the Bulldogs to their first win of the season, a 3-1 upset of 25th-ranked Midland Lutheran.
The Concordia forward finished with a hat trick of three goals in the Bulldogs home win. Vega leads the Bulldogs in goals scored (6) and points (13) on the season.
Bulldogs split; Upset NWU
26-27 SEP 2007
The Concordia University, Nebraska men's soccer team split a pair of games this past weekend, upsetting Nebraska Wesleyan 3-2 on Wednesday before falling to Dakota Wesleyan 4-3 on Saturday night.
The Bulldogs (2-8, 2-3 GPAC) handed the Prairie Wolves of Nebraska Wesleyan their first conference loss of the season on Wednesday. Nebraska Wesleyan (7-3-1, 4-1-1 GPAC) currently sits atop the GPAC standings with Hastings College. Concordia is situated in eighth place in the GPAC.
Against Nebraska Wesleyan the Bulldogs got another stellar performance from freshman Arturo Vega. Vega scored a pair of goals, including what proved to the game winner during the 81st minute. Vega's game winner came on an assist from Evan Gahan who scored Concordia's first goal.
The Bulldogs trailed after one half of play, as the Prairie Wolves scored just six minutes into the game. But Gahan pulled the Bulldogs even seven minutes into the second half off an assist from Andrew Nelson.
Mitchel Memming gave Nebraska Wesleyan the lead just 41 seconds after Gahan's goal. For almost 20 minutes neither team was able to score. Vega tied the game on a penalty kick with just less than 15 minutes remaining before scoring the game winner with eight minutes left.
Freshman Anthony Reichwaldt finished the game with seven saves for Concordia.
On Saturday night things didn't go quite as well against the other Wesleyan in the conference, Dakota Wesleyan. The Bulldogs jumped out to 2-0 lead, getting goals from Gahan and Nelson during the 23rd and 24th minutes.
Dakota Wesleyan battled back, scoring a pair of goals to knot the game up at half, 2-2. The Tigers went on to add a pair of goals in the second half to take a 4-2 advantage.
Vega scored his team leading ninth goal of the season with six minutes remaining, but it was too little, too late, for Concordia, as they were unable find the back of the net the rest of the way.
The Tigers were led by Juna Baltazar who finished with a pair of goals on the night.
Concordia is scheduled to take on Hastings College on Tuesday, Oct. 2 in a 7 p.m. contest at Bulldog Stadium.

On Tuesday the Bulldogs got a welcome surprise - an extra home game - as the game against Dana that was scheduled to be played in Blair, Neb., was moved to Bulldog Stadium because of unplayable field due to heavy rains.
Freshman Arturo Vega scored the first goal of the game against Dana, putting the Bulldogs on top 33 minutes into the game. It was the 13th goal of the season for Vega, the most by any Concordia soccer player in the "GPAC Era". Evan Gahan assisted on the goal.
Dana tied the game on a Corbin Lukasiewicz goal six minutes into the second half. Neither team was able to score the rest of the half, forcing the extra frame.
During the second half and overtime Concordia had eight of their 14 saves. Freshman goalie Anthony Reichwaldt had 12 saves in the game for the Bulldogs, facing 16 shots on goal during the contest.
