SEWARD, Neb. – The Great Plains Athletic Conference office announced the preseason coaches’ poll Thursday. Concordia, the 2015 conference tournament champions, was picked fifth with 87 points.
Selected to finish first with 121 points and 11 first place votes was Doane College who was the conference regular season champion. The Tigers finished the season receiving votes in the national poll.
Last season, the Bulldogs finished 29-23 overall and 10-10 in the GPAC. Concordia went on to defeat Morningside in the GPAC Championship Series to take the title. At the NAIA tournament, the ‘Dogs went 1-2, losing to the top-ranked Oklahoma City University squad.
Concordia’s softball team will return two all-conference players, Julia Tyree and Michaela Woodward. The squad will bring in 13 new freshmen to help fill the spots of five graduating student-athletes from the 2015 season.
The Bulldogs will kick off their season at the Cowtown Classic in Dallas, Texas. On Feb. 12-13 Concordia will face five different teams before heading to Tucson, Ariz. for the week long spring break trip.
