2023 CSC Softball Academic All-District
SEWARD, Neb. – In recognition of their work in the classroom and on the diamond, Megan Eurich, Caitlyn McGarvie and Julia Van Wey have been named to the 2023 Academic All-District® Softball Teams, as selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC) and announced on Tuesday (May 16). All three Concordia University student-athletes have received this recognition for the first time.
The 2022-23 Academic All-District® Softball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Student-athletes must achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher in order to be nominated for this award. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA — for each gender.
A sophomore from Gretna, Neb., Eurich enjoyed a breakthrough 2023 season while becoming the ace of the pitching staff. She made 24 appearances (21 starts) in the circle and covered 136 innings while posting a 9-12 record, a 3.76 ERA and 108 strikeouts. The strikeout total represented the 17th highest in a single season in program history. She ended the campaign with a complete game outing (two runs allowed) at Dordt. Eurich is majoring in Criminal Justice.
A native of Valparaiso, Neb., and Lincoln North Star High School alum, McGarvie earned two First Team All-GPAC awards in her career as a Bulldog. McGarvie graduated this May with a degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. In 144 games at Concordia, McGarvie batted .331 (125-for-378) with 24 doubles, eight triples, two home runs, 59 RBIs and a .452 slugging percentage. The standout outfielder helped the 2021 team reach the NAIA national tournament. The next step for McGarvie is to attend the UNMC of Pharmacy and pursue her doctorate.
A San Diego, Calif., native, Van Wey has started for three seasons in Bulldog Blue. She batted .276 while playing in 43 games in 2023. For her career, Van Wey has batted .291 (98-for-337) with 49 runs, 23 doubles, three triples, a home run and 50 RBIs while playing mostly first and third base. Van Wey is an NAIA Scholar-Athlete studying Criminal Justice.
