SEWARD, Neb. – The Concordia University Men’s Tennis team has gone a perfect 5-0 during the month of March. Naturally, one of its players was recognized as the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men’s Tennis Player of the Week. That award was handed out to freshman Santiago Abadia on Wednesday (March 29). Abadia is the third Bulldog tennis player this season to be named GPAC Player of the Week, joining Hugo Fuentes (March 15) and Mariana Molano (March 15).
While Abadia and the Bulldogs earned a win on Tuesday over Baker University (Kan.), the weekly award was based on performances in matches against Central College (March 21) and Hastings (March 25). In those outings, Abadia went a combined 2-0 in both doubles and singles. Abadia was particularly dominant in singles, winning by scores of 6-1, 6-1, over Central’s AJ Wilkins at No. 3 and 6-1, 6-0, over Hastings’ Ryan Hunter at No. 2. Abadia also paired up with Eduardo Rojas on two doubles wins last week. Heading into this week’s action, Abadia’s overall season records stood at 7-3 in singles and at 8-3 in doubles. Abadia is a native of Bogotá, Colombia, and is studying Business Administration.
Abadia and the Bulldogs (7-5, 1-0 GPAC) will resume conference play on Saturday when they are scheduled to host Morningside at 11 a.m. CT. Last week, Concordia blanked Hastings, 7-0.
