SEWARD, Neb. – A return to conference play meant a return to its winning ways. The Concordia University Men’s Tennis team remained unbeaten in the GPAC while hosting Mount Marty in a match that got started in the morning on Saturday (April 10). The Bulldogs made quick work of the Lancers, 7-0, and swept all singles and doubles matchups.
Head Coach David DeSimone’s squad has also beaten Morningside and Hastings within conference play. Concordia stands at 7-4 overall (3-0 GPAC).
“I enjoyed the way our teams bounced back after a tough loss at Baker,” DeSimone said. “We came out ready to compete and made the most of it today. All of our men played well. Luke Johnson stepped up and played well at 6 singles. Everyone had a few things that they were working on today and we did a good job executing on the court.”
Chalk up another dominant victory following last week’s 6-1 triumph over Hastings. In Saturday’s doubles action, the Bulldogs earned wins from the combos of Jack Kitson and Luke Zoller at No. 1, 6-3, Eduardo Rojas and Juan Rabellino at No. 2, 6-2, and Joe Bindl and Isaac Howes at No. 3, 6-0.
Concordia did not drop a single set in singles competition. At No. 5, Jack Kitson breezed to a 6-0, 6-0, win. The rest of the Bulldog lineup included Zoller at No. 1, Rojas at No. 2, Howes at No. 3, Bindl at No. 4 and Johnson at No. 6. Johnson dropped only one game in a 6-0, 6-1, win.
The Lancers fell to 0-7 (0-3 GPAC). They have slipped by 7-0 final scores in both of their other GPAC outings – against Northwestern and Midland.
Concordia will be on the road next Saturday and play Northwestern (4-6, 1-2 GPAC) in Orange City, Iowa. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m. CT.
