Last week’s conference opener came with plenty of tension as the Bulldogs eked out a 4-3 win over visiting Morningside. Head Coach David DeSimone credited Jeremiah Berryman with giving Concordia a spark with his win at No. 3 singles. With the outcome hanging in the balance, Joe Bindl came through with a 6-1, 6-1, win at No. 6 singles to clinch the team victory. Concordia effectively rallied after dropping two of the three doubles matches. Eduardo Rojas and Jack Kitson came out on top at No. 2 by a 6-1 score.
The Bulldogs also own wins this season over William Jewell College (Mo.), Sterling College (Kan.), Bethany College (Kan.) and Tabor College (Kan.). Bindl has won consistently while playing at the Nos. 4, 5 and 6 singles spots. He now carries a 7-1 season singles mark with the only defeat coming at the hands of an opponent from Emporia State University (Kan.). Three teammates have notched three singles wins: Isaac Howes, Juan Rabellino and Luke Zoller.
Concordia and Hastings last met in March of 2019 when the Broncos took a 6-3 decision. In its GPAC opener last week, Hastings edged Northwestern, 4-3. The Broncos also have defeated Tabor and Webster University (Mo.) this season. Hastings is coached by Mark Gueswell.
Following Wednesday’s match, the Bulldogs will look forward to playing at Baker University (Kan.) at 1 p.m. on April 8.
