SEWARD, Neb. - The Concordia University, Nebraska Men's Tennis team delivered a resounding victory against Baker University, Kan., on March 1, inside Walz Fieldhouse. The Bulldogs outperformed the Wildcats with a definitive 7-0 team score in this regular season encounter. Ben Chisholm clinched the winning point in singles.
Head Coach Lisa Hart's squad moves to .500 (4-4) with three non-conference matches remaining before entering GPAC play.
"Really proud of the guys to come out strong, " said Coach Hart. "We got ahead early. Won the doubles point and that set the tone for the rest of the match. It was good to see many guys have individual wins while also getting the team win. We are growing with every match and it's great to see their hunger translate to wins."
The Bulldog's success was highlighted in their singles matches, where each player won decisively against their counterparts. Hugo Fuentes led the charge by defeating Corvin Christ 6-4, 6-2, followed by Nick Velders who outplayed Juan Avila Gonzalez with a score of 6-1, 6-1. Manuel Rodriguez, Ben Chisholm, Grady Works, and Joey Melzer all registered solid wins, contributing to the team's clean sweep in singles. The standout doubles teams were also in fine form, with Velders and Fuentes toppling Immo Ferger and Christ, 6-1, and Chisholm partnering with Santiago Abadia to defeat Carlos Alcala and Kaleb Nelson, 6-2.
Despite a tough challenge, the doubles pair of Michael Bedrosian and Manuel Rodriguez faced a setback, losing 1-6 against Arturo Nunez and Juan Avila Gonzalez. This minor hiccup, however, did little to sway the overall outcome as the Bulldogs dominated the matches throughout the day, solidifying their position and showcasing their skills on home turf.
Looking ahead, the Bulldogs will face Friends University (1-1) in Kansas on March 7. Concordia's tennis team (4-4) is keen to maintain their two-win streak momentum and continue their winning ways as they progress through the season.
