SEWARD, Neb. – The Concordia Men’s Tennis team was on the road for its third straight dual on Sunday (Mar. 24). Taking on the University of Nebraska-Kearney, the Bulldogs were swept (0-7) by the Lopers inside the Ernest Grundy Tennis Center. The visitors are 5-10 after three straight losses and remain winless (0-2) in the conference.
Head Coach Lisa Hart commented on UNK and her team looking to move forward in practice.
“UNK is a really talented team and credit to them, they came ready to play. We came out and were unable to get much going. Our team will look forward to some time to improve and take on Northwestern in April.”
No. 3 Manuel Rodriguez and Aaron Osmond had a competitive match, but the Bulldog was unable to push to for tiebreaker set in the 4-6, 3-6, loss. No. 1 Hugo Fuentes faced Adam Palacek but fell (2-6,1-6) to the Loper.
In doubles, both the No. 1s and 2s dropped their matches (2-6) to the Division II squad. Fuentes and Rodriguez were in slot one plus Santi Abadia and Michael Bedrosian were in number two. Grady Works and Mitch Krumm at No. 3s, lost to Palacek and Jip Mens in their paring set (1-6).
UNK moves their record to 9-6 and will move back into conference play against Newman University (Kan.) this Thursday. It is .500 early in the MIAA season with a 1-1 conference record.
Concordia (5-10, 0-2 GPAC) will finally come back to the Bulldog Tennis Courts to face Northwestern (6-4, 0-0 GPAC) on Saturday (Apr. 6). The dual is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT. The Bulldogs defeated the Red Raiders in both duals last season.
