LINCOLN, Neb. – The entire Concordia University Men’s Tennis roster got a taste of what GPAC dual competition will be like in the spring of 2023. As part of a bracket-style GPAC singles/doubles tournament held Sept. 16-17 at Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb., Juan Rabellino starred for the Bulldogs. Rabellino reached the semifinals of the singles flight C as the most significant highlight for Concordia.
Nine Bulldogs competed at the event while representing Head Coach Cam Long’s squad. The fall season had started a few days earlier with a 4-3 victory at Bethel College (Kan.).
Said Long of what he saw from the conference opposition in Lincoln, “A lot of teams made big strides and brought in some talented players. From what I saw this weekend, there are a handful of teams that could potentially win the conference in the spring. We have the talent to be one of those teams. It’s going to take a lot of work and willingness to improve.”
Full results were not readily available, but the brackets for the GPAC tournament included the following Bulldogs:
· A singles: Hugo Fuentes (2 seed)
· B singles: Eduardo Rojas, Shawn Springer, Santiago Abadia
· C singles: Juan Rabellino, Manuel Rodriguez, Luke Johnson
· D singles: Hunter Ness
· A doubles: Fuentes/Rabellino, Springer/Abadia, Rojas/Rodriguez
· B doubles: Johnson/Ness
Up next, Concordia will host Iowa Central Community College on Saturday. First serve is set for 12 p.m. CT from the Bulldog Tennis Courts on campus. The two programs also met last fall in Seward with the result being a 6-1 victory for the Tritons.
