Rodriguez named all-conference in singles; six Bulldogs honored by GPAC

SEWARD, Neb. – Six Bulldogs from the 2023 GPAC semifinalist Concordia University Men’s Tennis team have earned all-conference recognition, as announced by the GPAC on Tuesday (May 9). In highlighting the selections for the Bulldogs, Manuel Rodriguez landed on the All-GPAC team for his work at No. 4 singles. In addition, five Concordia players garnered Honorable Mention All-GPAC accolades in singles and/or doubles: Hugo Fuentes, Juan Rabellino, Eduardo Rojas, Shawn Springer and Thomas van Haaren.

·        Hugo Fuentes (Denia, Spain): Honorable Mention Singles / Doubles

o   2023 GPAC records: 2-4 singles | 4-2 doubles

·        Manuel Rodriguez (Jerez de la Frontera, Spain): No. 4 Singles

o   2023 GPAC records: 4-2 singles | 1-0 doubles

·        Juan Rabellino (La Barra, Uruguay): Honorable Mention Singles / Doubles

o   2023 GPAC records: 3-1 singles | 3-3 doubles

·        Eduardo Rojas (Bogotá, Colombia): Honorable Mention Singles

o   2023 GPAC records: 3-3 singles | 3-3 doubles

·        Shawn Springer (Aurora, Colo.): Honorable Mention Doubles

o   2023 GPAC records: 0-3 singles | 4-2 doubles

·        Thomas van Haaren (La Barra, Uruguay): Honorable Mention Singles / Doubles

o   2023 GPAC records: 3-1 singles | 2-3 doubles

A native of Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, Rodriguez went an impressive 14-5 overall in singles this past season. He posted a 4-2 singles mark in GPAC regular season competition. The lone two seniors on the roster, Rabellino and Rojas have achieved all-conference status for the second time in their college careers. Among the Bulldog honorees, three were named honorable mention all-conference for both singles and doubles: Fuentes, Rabellino and van Haaren. The duo of Fuentes and Rabellino went 3-1 in GPAC doubles matches. Springer and van Haaren won two of three doubles contests versus conference foes.

Head Coach Cam Long’s squad finished the season at 12-9 overall (3-3 GPAC). The season concluded with an appearance in the GPAC tournament semifinals.
