Season resumes with busy stretch for Bulldogs

SEWARD, Neb. – After having a series of matches canceled over the weekend, Concordia University Men’s Tennis will be back in action with three outings this week. That stretch begins on Tuesday with Sterling College (Kan.) paying a visit to Seward. The Bulldogs will also host Bethel College (Kan.) on Wednesday and then travel to Missouri Valley College on Saturday. Both home matches will take place on Concordia’s outdoor campus courts. Head Coach Cam Long’s squad currently stands at 1-4 overall.

Tuesday, March 15 vs. Sterling (0-3), 3 p.m.

Wednesday, March 16 vs. Bethel (1-2), 11 a.m.

Saturday, March 19 at Missouri Valley (5-6), 1 p.m.

By the numbers

·        Concordia’s 1-4 start has included a win over Bethany College (Kan.), 7-0, back on Feb. 26 (the team’s most recent match). Prior to that victory, the Bulldogs were defeated by Iowa Central Community College, 6-1, William Jewell College (Mo.), 7-0, Colorado College, 5-2, and Grand View University (Iowa), 4-3.

·        Through five matches, three Concordia players have won at least two singles matches: Jack Kitson (4-1), Joe Bindl (2-3) and Eduardo Rojas (2-3). The most successful doubles pairs have been Eduardo Luzzi and Juan Rabellino and Kitson and Rojas (both 2-1). The combo of Jeremiah Berryman and Bindl sports a record of 2-2. As a team this season, the Bulldogs have gone 11-19 in singles and 7-8 in doubles play.

·        The most recent GPAC ratings were released on Feb. 28. Concordia landed at No. 3 behind Midland and Doane. The teams ranked four through seven were Morningside, Hastings, Northwestern and Mount Marty.

Next week

The Bulldogs are slated to be on the road twice next week with a trip to Kansas Wesleyan University for an 11 a.m. first serve on March 22. Conference play will then get started with a 12 p.m. match at Morningside on March 26.
