LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The Bulldogs matched up against the University of Saint Mary (Kan.) on Thursday Morning (Feb. 29) at Genesis Health Club-Clayview. Concordia whipped the Spires (5-2), winning the doubles point and four singles matches. Grady Works and Michael Bedrosian went 2-0 with a victory in their doubles and singles matches.
The Bulldog Blue are 3-5 overall having won three of its last four contests. Head Coach Lisa Hart commented on the intensity of play and how big the doubles point win set a fire in the guys.
“Getting out ahead of their team was really big for us. It set the tone for the rest of the matches. We mixed up our doubles lineup and I think it helped us today. All of the guys came out with intensity and passion in singles, and I was impressed with how the team rallied together. This was our third win in four duals, and it is big in building the program.”
In doubles, No. 2s Abadia and Bedrosian jumped on Will Ogrizovich and Leyton Ross in a 6-3 set victory. Luke Johnson and Works at No. 3s, took hold of the doubles point with a 6-4 set win over Demitri Serrano and Jack Contrucci.
Works continued to win, only giving up two total games in the defeat of Ogrizovich (6-1, 6-1). Mitch Krumm delivered a straight set shutout (6-0, 6-0) over Serrano taking the easiest win on the Spires. Krumm clinched the win for the Bulldogs.
Manuel Rodriguez (No. 4) and Bedrosian (No. 5) collected wins after giving up four games apiece. Rodriguez finished Contrucci (6-3, 6-1) and Bedrosian defeated Ross (6-1, 6-3) in their individual matchups.
Concordia (3-5) will face Sterling College (1-1) of Kansas at the SC Tennis Facility on Mar. 2. First toss is expected at 11 a.m. CT.
