SEWARD, Neb. – The Concordia University men’s tennis team twice defeated Midland by 5-4 scores in 2017. On Thursday (April 12), the Warriors avenged those losses with a 7-2 victory over the host Bulldogs in a match contested on the Bulldog Tennis Courts.
Fourth-year head coach Joel Reckewey’s squad now stands at 7-8 overall and at 0-2 in conference play. A week earlier, Concordia endured a 7-2 loss at Doane.
The positives on Thursday came from sophomore Lucas Zoller. He and freshman Jeremy Berryman teamed up for an 8-5 victory for the lone Bulldog doubles win. Zoller then gutted out a triumph at No. 2 singles, outlasting Jack Fryer in a 10-point tiebreaker, 3-6, 7-6 (1), 10-7. Meanwhile at No. 1 singles, Thomas Greeff was edged by Salvador Almeida, 6-4, 2-6, 11-9.
Thursday marked Concordia’s first and only outdoor home match of the spring. The Bulldogs have claimed all seven of their wins outside of Seward, including five victories in true road matches.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to be idle until Tuesday, April 24 when they play at Hastings (9-6, 0-0 GPAC) at 4 p.m. CT. Only three matches remain on the regular-season slate that is set to end on April 27.
