Boellstorff claims hammer throw title on day one of Wildcat Classic
WAYNE, Neb. – A total of 19 Bulldogs competed in the hammer throw on Friday as part of the Wayne State College Wildcat Classic. On the men’s side sophomore Cody Boellstorff won the event with an automatic national qualifying throw of more than 180 feet. Senior Jamie Crouse also qualified for nationals with her third-place toss.
The rest of the meet will be held on Saturday. Seventeen teams make up the Wildcat Classic field.
Throws coach Ed McLaughlin’s Bulldogs dominated the men’s hammer throw. Not only did Boellstorff take first, freshman Zach Lurz claimed third, sophomore Ben Schulteis fourth, junior Trey Farmer fifth and Adam Aschenbrenner seventh.
The Wildcat Classic resumes at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The last scheduled races – the men’s 4x400 relay – are set to start at 7:30 p.m. as part of a long day at LeRoy Simpson Track at Cunningham Field.
