NAIA National Qualifiers: Men | Women

SEWARD, Neb. – The field of 2024 NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships qualifiers has been solidified. In conjunction with the NAIA’s release on Friday (Feb. 23), the Concordia University Track & Field program has announced a nationals team of 32 individuals (including 20 women and 12 men). The event will run March Feb. 29 – March 2 at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, S.D. This will mark the fifth time the NAIA national indoor meet has taken place at this location.

Head Coach Matt Beisel’s squads are coming off conference places finishes of first for the women and third for the men at last week’s GPAC Championships hosted by Mount Marty. In the most recent NAIA ratings released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, Concordia appeared at No. 3 on the women’s side and at No. 9 on the men’s side.

The women have hopes of bringing back a team trophy (top four teams earn hardware) from Brookings. Among the 20 national qualifiers are eight previous All-Americans: Jenna Esch (three), Kylahn Freiberg (four), Abby Gerber (one), Rylee Haecker (eight), Jordan Koepke (five), Josi Noble (one), Josie Puelz (seven) and Trinity Tuls (two). At the 2023 indoor national meet, Freiberg placed second in the 1,000 meters, Abby Gerber placed seventh in the shot put, Rylee Haecker placed sixth in the 1,000 meters, Erin Mapson placed seventh in the pole vault, Josie Puelz won the pole vault national title and the 4x4 relay placed sixth. Puelz has won five pole vault national titles in her career.

The men placed 31st at the 2023 NAIA indoor meet. Among the team’s 12 national qualifiers, three have claimed All-American hardware in the past: Darien Semedo (one), Chris Wren (three) and Zach Zohner (two). Zohner will enter the meet as the nation’s top seed in the pole vault with a mark of 17’ 1.” Zohner burst onto the scene in Brookings last year and placed as the national runner up. The qualifying roster also includes Calvin Rohde, who led the Bulldogs in scoring at the GPAC meet and was the conference champion in the 1,000 meters.

The list of Bulldogs making their first-ever national championship appearance includes Liam Fagan, Carson Fehlhafer, Brady Klute, Trevor Kuncl, Julie McIntyre, Hayley Miles, Mayson Ostermeyer, Trey Robertson, Sydney Reichert, Isabelle Salters, Colby Sugden and Zoey Walker.
