GRAND ISLAND, Neb. – Just as she did at the Prairie Circuit Classic on Sept. 30, junior Erin Lokke claimed the top spot on the women’s side while competing at the Bronco Invitational (Oct. 14-15) at Heartland Public Shooting Park in Grand Island, Neb. The efforts of Lokke and senior Seth Willard helped the Concordia University trap and skeet team to a fifth-place finish among the nine teams at the tournament hosted by Hastings.
Head coach Joel Helmer’s squad hit 2,201 targets in what was its fifth competition of the 2017-18 season. A total of 15 shooters represented the Bulldogs at the Bronco Invite.
A native of Saint Francis, Minn., Lokke hit 446/500 targets while rising above all other females at the event. She also took first in double skeet (96/100) during a typically stellar performance. On the men’s side, Willard set a new school standard with his score of 99/100 in skeet. Only three shooters in the field of 120 managed a perfect score in skeet. Another highlight was turned in by sophomore Brook Wagner in double trap (85/100).
HOA, Concordia’s top five was made up of Lokke (446/500), Willard (436/500), Dustin Renfro (430/500), Mack Origer (422/500) and Wagner (419/500). Nine Bulldogs hit 400 or more targets during the two-day event.
The final outing of the fall season is coming up Nov. 4-5 when the ACUI Upper Midwest Conference Championship will take place at the same site in Grand Island, the Heartland Public Shooting Park. The Bulldogs will also be in action this coming spring.
