Bulldogs rally for 3-2 volleyball win over Briar Cliff

Concordia University rallied for a 3-2 GPAC volleyball win over Briar Cliff University on Saturday in Sioux City.  Scores of the match were 25-19, 21-25, 14-25, 26-24 and 18-16.  The Bulldogs improved to 10-16 on the year (3-8 GPAC).  Briar Cliff slipped to 10-16 (6-6 GPAC). 

Marlee Denton (Fremont, Neb.) pounded a match-high 15 kills in the Bulldog victory.  Amanda Kisker (Lincoln, Neb.) added a big double-double of 12 kills and a team-high 19 digs.  Ashlea Vaudt (Kalispell, Mont.) added eight kills and four assisted blocks.  Mariah Schamp (Arvada, Colo.) totaled six kills and six assisted blocks, while Amanda Abbott (Temecula, Calif.) also delivered six kills for the Bulldogs.  Defensively, Carli Smith (Temecula, Calif.) had 17 digs.  Alexa Hopping (Sutherland, Neb.) handed out a team-best 31 set assists and also added 10 digs on the night. 

A trio of Briar Cliff players reached double figures in kills.  Brooke Maguire had a team-best 13 kills.  Kally Iedema and Amber Skoglund each added double-doubles for the Chargers.  Iedema totaled 11 kills and 22 digs, while Skoglund chipped in with 11 kills and 13 digs.  Liz Krog had a match-high 24 digs on the night, while Erin Frank totaled a match-best 49 set assists to go along with 14 digs. 

Concordia hosts three matches this coming week.  The Bulldogs host Doane College on October 25 on Dig Pink Night at the Walz Human Performance Complex.  Dakota Wesleyan University comes to Seward on October 28 on Senior Night, and Dordt College comes to town on October 29 on Parents’ Day at the Walz Complex.
