SEWARD, Neb. – For the sixth time in 2023, standout Concordia University Volleyball student-athlete Bree Burtwistle has been named the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Setter of the Week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday (Nov. 7). Burtwistle received her latest honor as a result of her performances the previous week in wins over No. 18 Midland and Dakota Wesleyan. Middle blocker Gabi Nordaker has also raked in a pair of conference awards this fall.
A fifth-year collegiate player, Burtwistle averaged 14.14 assists per set (99 total) last week in the pair of victories. The win at Midland allowed the fourth-ranked Bulldogs to share the GPAC regular season title. The week for Burtwistle also included 24 digs, four kills, two blocks and two aces. Burtwistle ranks No. 3 nationally in assists per set (11.83). Concordia hit .214 at Midland and .385 versus Dakota Wesleyan. The dominant victory over DWU pushed the Bulldogs into the GPAC semifinals for the fifth year in a row.
Burtwistle achieved a career milestone last week in surpassing 3,000 career assists. The native of Stanton, Neb., has recorded 3,025 assists, 825 digs, 127 kills, 104 aces and 73 blocks in 108 career matches.
Burtwistle and her teammates are preparing to play No. 12 Jamestown in the GPAC semifinals on Wednesday. First serve is set for 7 p.m. CT from Friedrich Arena.
