Hastings College powers past Concordia in GPAC volleyball

Hastings College swept past Concordia in GPAC volleyball on Tuesday evening in Seward.  Scores of the match were 25-10, 25-15 and 25-19.  Hastings improved to 11-10 overall and 2-3 in GPAC play with the victory.  Concordia dropped to 7-12 overall and 1-4 in GPAC play.  

The visiting Broncos jumped out to big leads and cruised to wins in the first two sets.  Concordia managed to keep things close for much of the third set.  The Bulldogs got within one at 16-15, but Hastings College poured it on from there.  The Broncos finished with a .398 team attack percentage in the win.  In the first two sets, Hastings finished with .435 and .536 attack percentages, respectively.  

Shayna Schacher led the way for Hastings College with a game-high 14 kills.  Kirsten Nickel added nine kills, while Kendra Schwein and McKayla Gowen delivered seven kills apiece for a balanced Hastings College attack.  Haley Beardsley handed out 37 set assists on the night, and Carissa Kinne had a team-best six digs for the Broncos.  

Amanda Abbott (Temecula, Calif.) and Amanda Kisker (Lincoln, Neb.) each had seven kills to lead Concordia offensively.  Alexa Hopping (Sutherland, Neb.) and Kayla James (Gibbon, Neb.) had 11 and 10 assists, respectively, while Angela Bruhn (Creston, Neb.) had a game-high seven digs for the Bulldogs defensively.  

Concordia hosts Northwestern College on Friday evening with matches scheduled for 6 and 7:30 at the Walz Human Performance Complex.
