Morningside College hands Concordia 3-1 volleyball loss

Morningside College picked up a 3-1 GPAC volleyball win over Concordia on Saturday afternoon in Seward.  The visiting Mustangs improved to 15-4 overall and 5-1 in conference play with the victory.  Concordia dropped to 7-14 overall and 1-6 in the GPAC.  

Scores of the match were 25-15, 20-25, 25-13 and 26-24.  Concordia threatened to take the match to a fifth set.  In the fourth set, the Bulldogs led 22-19 and then had a set point at 24-22.  However, the Mustangs rattled off four straight points to secure the victory. 

Maggie Vondrak had a match-high 16 kills to pace Morningside College.  Briana Schaeuble added 13 kills, and Riley Callan also reached double digits with 10 kills.  Anastasia Ott delivered six kills and nine assisted blocks, while Kaeli Austin had seven kills and 16 digs.  Monica Iverson handed out 45 set assists for Morningside in the win.  

Concordia was led by Amanda Kisker’s (Lincoln, Neb.) 13 kills.  Amanda Abbott (Temecula, Calif.) added 10 kills, and Marlee Denton (Fremont, Neb.) had eight kills in the match.  Alexa Hopping (Sutherland, Neb.) had 23 set assists to go along with 10 digs, and Carli Smith (Temecula, Calif.) had a match-high 23 digs for Concordia defensively.  

Concordia hosts York College on October 4.  The JV contest is set for 6 with the varsity match to follow at the Walz Human Performance Complex.
