Year two of the Concordia Weightlifting program has arrived. Head Coach Freddie Myles' group returns national qualifiers Marry Berris and Evan Fukuhara while welcoming in four freshmen. The season gets going in mid-September.
Since the official announcement of the addition of Lifting Sports to Concordia's athletic offerings in November 2021, Head Coach Freddie Myles has begun to build up the program. The Bulldogs powered through their inaugural season in 2022-23.
A former Concordia student-athlete, Chevy Stout was promoted to a full-time role as Assistant Coach of the Concordia lifting sports and strength & conditioning programs. Stout began that role officially on April 17.
Four Bulldogs made their way to the national stage in Arlington, Texas, for the USA Powerlifting Collegiate Nationals. Concordia qualified Dax Davis, Kenzie Houser, Rylee Ladd and Emma Singer for nationals.
The inaugural season of competitive powerlifting at Concordia will wrap up this Thursday through Sunday (April 13-16) with the 2023 USA Powerlifting Collegiate National Championships. Four Bulldogs will compete on the national stage.
It was another first for Concordia Lifting Sports last week as four Bulldogs represented the weightlifting team at the 2023 National Championships. As a major highlight, Kayleigh Maloney won a first-place medal in snatch.
The 2023 National University Championships are up next for the Concordia Weightlifting team. Head Coach Freddie Myles will travel Mary Berris, Evan Fukuhara, Kayleigh Maloney and Rylee Kara to nationals in Columbus, Ohio.
In the third outing of the inaugural season for Concordia Powerlifting, four Bulldogs placed first and all 10 of the team's competitors improved their scores from the previous meet. The next event on the schedule will be the national championships.
In a return to action for the Concordia Weightlifters, five Bulldogs emerged with first-place claims at the Heartland Open in Omaha. Titles were taken by Mary Berris, Rylee Kara, Sydney Wadsworth, Evan Fukuhara and Mitch Myers.
Four Bulldogs came away with medals via top three placements at the Midwest Regionals hosted by William Jewell on Nov. 19. Rylee Ladd claimed first place in the 52 kg class and nearly every Concordia athlete improved their totals.
