
SEWARD, Neb. – A graduate assistant during the 2025-26 season, Vince Ongtangco has been promoted to Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach on Head Coach Drew Olson’s staff at Concordia University, Nebraska. Ongtangco helped the ’25-26 Bulldogs to a national tournament appearance and a 23-8 overall record. Ongtangco moves into the role formerly held by Katherine Benes, who resigned the position.
Stated Ongtangco, “First and foremost, I want to give all glory and praise to God for opening this opportunity to my wife, Emma, and me. I am incredibly grateful to Coach Olson for believing in me and trusting me with the opportunity to serve as the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Concordia. I also want to recognize my wife, Emma, whose selflessness, support and sacrifices have made this transition possible. Her encouragement has been a constant blessing throughout this journey.”
Olson completed his 20th season at the helm of Bulldog Women’s Basketball this past season. Said Olson of the promotion of Ongtangco, “I am really excited that Vince gets to stay at Concordia in a full-time capacity. He has a great enthusiasm about him that is contagious to everyone. His faith in Jesus is amazing and will continue to be a positive impact with all of our players. I am excited for the basketball knowledge that he will bring to the team and the energy he will give to the Concordia campus.”
A native of Alma, Neb., Ongtangco’s familiarity with the GPAC extends to his time as a student-athlete at Midland University. During the 2024-25 season, Ongtangco served as the top assistant for the College of Saint Mary women’s basketball program. Prior to his time at CSM, Ongtangco assisted the Millard North High School girl’s basketball team for two seasons and helped the Mustangs to a combined record of 40-11 with an appearance in the state semifinals (2023) and state quarterfinals (2024). This past year, Ongtangco coached Concordia’s junior varsity team and assisted the varsity program.
Additionally, Ongtangco coached the Nebraska Attack 16u and 17u select teams in recent years and won three tournaments during the summer of 2024. He also has worked as a basketball skills coach with Going Vertical in Omaha (2022-23) and as a strength coach or intern with Millard North, Loyalty Training, Xplosive Edge and Midland.
Ongtangco earned his degree from Midland University in Human Performance – Strength and Conditioning. He is pursuing his master’s in Athletic Administration from Concordia. Vince is married to Emma Ongtangco.
Ongtangco added, “I am excited to step into this new role and continue serving our student-athletes and the program with excellence. Beyond basketball, I look forward to serving our team by shining the light of Christ in all that I do and helping lead our student-athletes toward a deeper relationship with Him. It is a privilege to be part of a Christ-centered institution where faith and athletics work together to impact lives for eternity. In addition, I believe the relationships I have built throughout Nebraska and within the surrounding basketball community will help us continue to attract outstanding student-athletes to Concordia.”
