SEWARD, Neb. – One of Concordia’s brightest athletes both athletically and as a student, junior Amy Ahlers has reeled in another honor. On Thursday, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) recognized Ahlers as an Academic All-District™ selection. She is one of 11 student-athletes named to the College Division all-district 3 team.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District™ Women’s At-Large Teams have been released to recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. For more information about the Academic All-District™ and Academic All-America® Teams program, please visit http://cosida.com.
An elementary education major, Ahlers continues to stake her claim as the top women’s golfer in Concordia history. The native of Albion, Neb., broke the program’s single-season record for lowest average (80.8) while winning three events during her junior campaign. Also a 2014-15 academic all-district choice, Ahlers has placed in the top 10 in 23 of 30 career tournaments (six tournament wins). She has earned all-conference honors in each of her first three seasons, turning in GPAC finishes of fourth, second and third, respectively.
Ahlers is part of a long list of Concordia athletes to receive all-district accolades over the past two seasons. The 2014-15 academic year saw a school record 11 Bulldogs collect such recognition. This year’s all-district honorees include Chandler Folkerts (men’s basketball), Hallick Lehmann (football), Adam Meirose (football), Becky Mueller (women’s basketball) and Ahlers. Folkerts and Lehman also earned Academic All-America laurels.
The College Division of district 3 includes the states of Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Ahlers and four other GPAC players were named all-district on Thursday.
Ahlers will now be eligible for Academic All-America honors. Those award winners will be announced by CoSIDA later this month.
