Mount Marty Invite Team Standings

YANKTON, S.D. – The opening tournament of the 2024-25 season is in the books. Concordia University Women’s Golf made a push on Friday (Aug. 30) for a top-five spot in the team standings before settling for ninth place at the Mount Marty Invite. Juniors Emery Custer and Maddie Lewis paced the top of the Bulldog lineup by shooting scores in the 80s on both days of the tournament held at Hillcrest Country Club and Fox Run Golf Course in Yankton, S.D.

Head Coach Brett Muller entered both ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams into the tournament field that included 13 total team groupings and 73 individual golfers. Concordia looks to be a team on the rise with the help of the freshman class.

“Coming into today in ninth place and only 11 shots back, we knew we had a chance to move up,” Muller said. “With about seven holes left, we had moved up to a tie for fifth place. Unfortunately, we struggled to finish the round off. We did have some positives in this tournament. Five scores in the 80s or better yesterday was good to see. We will use the week off next week to improve our short game to save some strokes around the greens.”

The Broken Bow, Neb., native Custer moved up the leaderboard on day two while playing a course that scored higher as compared to the day one venue. Custer went from 16th place after day one to 13th by tournament’s end while shooting 80-85–165 (+21) in Yankton. Likewise, Lewis made a jump in leaping from 45th to 32nd place. She carded a two-round total of 88-87–175. The rest of the top five featured freshman Savannah McFalls (88-91–179; T-38th), senior Jennifer Gillotti (88-94–182; T-44th) and freshman Taylor McGuire (85-100–185; T-49th).

Another freshman, Audra Poffinbarger, led the way for the Bulldog ‘B’ squad by shooting 94-93–187 (54th place). Complete scores for Concordia golfers are included below.

While the Concordia ‘A’ team placed ninth (341-357–698), it wasn’t far behind GPAC rivals Dordt (685), College of Saint Mary (694) and Northwestern (696). The Bulldogs finished in front of Hastings (731). The team title went to Bellevue (626).
