LINCOLN, Neb. – The seventh all-time Concordia Bulldog Spring Invitational got underway on Tuesday (April 1) morning at Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln, Neb., where blustery and cool conditions greeted the field of 75 golfers. The Concordia University, Nebraska Women’s Golf team shot a 352 on its home course and resides in eighth place amongst the 13 groupings in competition at the Concordia Invite. Individually, juniors Emery Custer and Maddie Lewis led the way for the Bulldogs by shooting scores in the 80s.
Head Coach Brett Muller’s program welcomed golfers from 12 competing institutions to Highlands. The tournament was shortened from 54 holes to a 36-hole event due to the potential for rain Tuesday night into Wednesday.
A native of Broken Bow, Neb., Custer is hoping to carry the momentum she built from the spring break trip that saw her shoot a career best for a single round (76) and two-round tournament (76-82–158). On Tuesday, she carded a score of 83, placing her in a tie for 18th with one round to play. Custer birdied 6 and 17 in the highlights for her day. She was backed by Lewis, who shot 86 and stands in 27th place on the individual leaderboard. Freshman Savannah McFalls (91) and senior Jennifer Gillotti (92) also contributed to the team scoring.
The tournament field includes nine Bulldogs, including four playing as individuals. Among that group of four, sophomore Emma McCoy shot the best round with a 93. All Concordia scores from round one are listed below.
