YORK, Neb. – The scores were a bit higher than the Concordia University women’s golf team had hoped for in round three of the 2018-19 GPAC Women’s Golf Championships. The Bulldogs carded a 370 team score on Friday (April 26) while in action at York Country Club in York, Neb. That total resulted in Concordia sliding back from sixth to seventh place in the conference standings.
With 18 holes of the GPAC tournament left, head coach Brett Muller’s squad owns a three-round score of 334-338-370–1,042. Some improvement on Saturday could allow the Bulldogs to potentially catch conference rivals immediately in front of them: Mount Marty (1,034), Briar Cliff (1,021) and Northwestern (1,021).
Concordia is going to have to adjust to the lightning quick greens in York. Freshman Kendra Placke entered the weekend with aspirations of competing for an individual GPAC title, but those hopes took a hit with her shooting an 88 on Friday. Placke is now tied for sixth on the conference leaderboard (75-78-88–241). It was also a tough day for sophomore Murphy Sears, who shot a 92 and is tied for 11th in the GPAC (83-75-92–250).
Freshmen DJ Bokelman (86-96-97–279; T-35th) and Britney Jepsen (101-95-93–289; 39th) are the other two Bulldogs qualified for the GPAC leaderboard (must compete in every conference round). Junior Paighton Barbre held down the fifth spot in the lineup on Friday and shot a 100.
Day two of the GPAC championships will get started at 10 a.m. CT from York Country Club on Saturday. Results can be found most quickly throughout the day via the following link: http://live.gpacsports.com/Women/xlive.htm.
