NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. – Many teams in the field at the Lila Frommelt Fall Classic went low on the opening day of the event, staged at Two Rivers Golf Club in North Sioux City, S.D., on Friday (Sept. 14). For the Concordia University women’s golf team, the 348 it carded represented a 23-stroke improvement from its most recent round. That score puts the Bulldogs in seventh place among the 14 competing squads at Two Rivers
Eighth-year head coach Brett Muller’s bunch is the midst of its third event so far this fall. The 348 was just off the team’s season low of 344 turned in on Aug. 30.
To this point, freshman Kendra Placke has emerged as Concordia’s No. 1. She shot an 81 (tied for 15th place out of 82 golfers) on Friday, a score right at her early collegiate average. Returning All-GPAC performer Murphy Sears and sophomore Andrew Peterson came in next. They both shot an 86, locking them up for 34th place on the individual leaderboard. The 86 was a huge upgrade from the 101 Peterson shot at the Midland Invite.
Rounding out Concordia’s efforts was freshman Britney Jepsen (95; 61st) and seniors Madison Pitsch (96; T-62nd) and Paighton Barbre (100; T-69th).
The field at the Lila Frommelt Classic includes a host of GPAC schools as well as other NAIA institutions such as William Penn University (Iowa) and Waldorf University (Iowa), NCAA Division III Buena Vista University (Iowa) as well as Iowa Lakes Community College.
The second and final day of the Lila Frommelt Invite is coming up on Saturday. The action will continue from Two Rivers.
