SPENCER, Iowa – Paced by sophomore Emery Custer and senior Mya Nurse, the Concordia University Women’s Golf team turned in two rounds below its season scoring average as part of day one at the 2024 GPAC Women’s Golf Championships. The Bulldogs shot 352-350–702 at Spencer Country Club in Spencer, Iowa, on Monday (April 22). That total puts them in 10th place with one conference round left to be contested on Tuesday.
Head Coach Brett Muller’s program has placed as high as third in the GPAC as recently as 2021. Concordia will be chasing the likes of Jamestown (685), Northwestern (695), Dordt (698) and Hastings (700) when the action resumes in Spencer.
Custer (Broken Bow, Neb.) and Nurse (West Des Moines, Iowa) shot identical scores (86-86–172) on Monday and are tied for 22nd place on the conference individual leaderboard. Custer, Nurse and fifth-year Bulldog Logan Eschliman all returned to the Bulldogs’ GPAC lineup from last season. Eschliman resides in 35th place after carding a total of 91-87–178. The fourth and fifth spots, respectively, in the lineup were held down by sophomore Maddie Lewis (89-93–182) and senior Jennifer Gillotti (95-91–186).
The top five of the GPAC after two rounds is: Morningside (646), Briar Cliff (665), Dakota Wesleyan (679), Mount Marty (679) and Doane (680). Morningside’s Sofia Castelan shot 75-77–152 and leads all individuals.
Concordia is looking to move up from its 10th place GPAC finish in 2023. At last year’s conference tournament, Custer placed 25th, Eschliman 30th and Nurse 40th.
