ORANGE CITY, Iowa – With back-to-back scores of 80, junior Emery Custer claimed a top 10 tournament finish at the Siouxland Invite co-hosted by Dordt and Northwestern. Custer and eight of her Concordia University Women’s Golf teammates were part of the field of 61 golfers at the two-day tournament that was staged at both The Ridge Golf Club in Sioux Center, Iowa, and Landsmeer Golf Club in Orange City, Iowa. The Bulldogs placed eighth out of nine groupings while up against exclusively GPAC competition.
Head Coach Brett Muller’s squad carded a two-round total of 350-349–699. Concordia finished 12 strokes behind seventh-place Hastings. Said Muller, “It was another solid performance from Emery. She just had a couple of big numbers that kept her out of the top five. It was nice to see Sarah (Wilson) shoot her career low today.”
In placing ninth at the Siouxland Invite, Custer (80-80–160) earned the seventh top 10 tournament placement of her career. The Broken Bow, Neb., native finished four strokes out of the top five and eight strokes behind the tournament co-champions. By day’s end, Custer lowered her team best 18-hole season average to 82.8.
In Tuesday’s round, seniors Jennifer Gillotti (89-87–176) and Sarah Wilson (93-89–182) also shot scores in the 80s. Gillotti placed 37th overall and Wilson finished 41st on the strength of her career low. Junior Maddie Lewis (88-93–181) was sandwiched in between Gillotti and Wilson with her 40th-place finish. The five-person lineup was rounded out by Savannah McFalls (98-95–193; 48th). Another four Bulldogs competed as individuals (scores listed below).
