HASTINGS, Neb. – There were signs of encouragement over two days (Oct. 4-5) at the annual Nebraska Intercollegiate for Concordia University Women’s Golf. While led by junior Maddie Lewis, the Bulldogs placed fifth while competing amongst a field of seven Nebraska squads. Lewis claimed a top 20 spot out of 35 individuals who navigated Lochland Country Club in Hastings, Neb. Bellevue University emerged as the tournament champion.

Head Coach Brett Muller’s squad shot 349-352–701 for the tournament. It defeated GPAC rivals Hastings (728) and Midland (875). The second and third place finishers were NCAA Division II squads.

“We got plagued by some big numbers both days,” Muller said. “Overall, we would have liked to have our team score a lot lower. We had three pretty solid scores on day one and a couple today. We just struggled to find a fourth score. Savannah McFalls had her career best on Friday and showed the potential she has as a freshman.”

After Concordia competitors combined for three scores in the 80s on Friday, two Bulldogs found their way into the 80s on Saturday. The Treynor, Iowa, native Lewis shot a consistent 84-84–168 and placed 19th. She was followed closely in the lineup by the team’s top golfer this season, junior Emery Custer. She turned in a score of 83-87–170 and placed 21st.

As mentioned by Muller, McFalls continues to show promise in her freshman year. She shot 87-90–177 and tied for 23rd. The final two spots in the lineup were held down by junior Jennifer Gillotti (95-91–186; T-28th) and senior Sarah Wilson (97-107–204; 31st). The two team scores came in under the team’s season average (355.8) entering the Nebraska Intercollegiate.
