YANKTON, S.D. – Out of action since the fall of 2019, the Concordia University Women’s Golf Program returned to the scene on Thursday (Sept. 10). Day one of the Mount Marty Fall Invite marked the opening of the 2020-21 season for the Bulldogs. They shot a total of 366 and are in eighth place amongst the 13 groups of five that navigated Fox Run Golf Course in Yankton, S.D.
Head Coach Brett Muller’s Bulldogs placed third in the GPAC last season and enter the new campaign with expectations of again contending near the top of the league. The 366 was significantly higher than last season’s season average of 348.1.
Kendra Placke (a sophomore eligibility-wise) figures to again be the team’s lead performer. The Seward High School native shot an 85 (+13) on Thursday, putting her in 10th place out of the 72 golfers at the Mount Marty Invite. Next in line was Lauren Havlat, who equaled a career low with an 89 (tied for 21st).
Concordia was also represented by Logan Eschliman (95; T-38th), Emily Jensen (97; T-45th) Ashley Gerczynski (100; T-52nd) and Mya Nurse (105; T-60th). Jensen and Nurse both made their collegiate debuts.
The action will continue on Friday with golf resuming at 10 a.m. CT from Fox Run. The Mount Marty Invite is one of four events (six total rounds) on the schedule prior to the GPAC Championships (Oct. 5-6). To follow results on Friday, visit golfgenius.com and use 20MMUINVITE as the “GGID.”
