SEWARD, Neb. – The tournament title at last week’s Lila Frommelt Classic has led to Kendra Placke being named the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women’s Golfer of the Week, as announced on Wednesday (Sept. 23). The Seward High School product also garnered the GPAC weekly award in September of last year.
A two-time All-GPAC honoree, Placke continues to trend on a path towards becoming of the top performers in program history. Her two-round total of 72-77–149 (+7) broke a school record for lowest 36-hole score at a single event. The previous record was held by former GPAC champion Amy Ahlers (151). Placke’s one-over-par 72 on day one of the tournament put her one stroke off Ahlers’ program standard for 18 holes. Placke’s season average through five rounds stands at 79.0 (school record is 80.79 by Ahlers in 2015-16).
A sophomore athletically (junior academically), Placke has two career tournament victories. On Tuesday (Sept. 22) in Blair, Neb., she placed second with an 83 while leading the Bulldogs to a team title at the Matthew Goette Fall Classic hosted by College of Saint Mary. Placke has placed inside the top 10 in 14 of 16 career tournaments played.
Placke and her teammates will return to action on Saturday for the Buena Vista University Fall Invite in Storm Lake, Iowa. The fall portion of the GPAC Championships is coming up Oct. 5-6.
