YANKTON, S.D. – The scores went the wrong way on the second and final day of the Mount Marty Fall Invite. On the plus side, freshman Kendra Placke retained a top five placement on the individual leaderboard that included 65 golfers. Out of the field of 11 teams (all GPAC squads), the Concordia University women’s golf squad placed eighth.
Head coach Brett Muller’s bunch carded a 344 in Yankton, S.D., on Thursday, showing the potential to make a big jump up the conference standings this season. However, the Bulldogs slipped on Friday, shooting a 390 at Hillcrest Country Club.
The presence of Placke alone should make for a better program this year and beyond. After shooting a 76 on Thursday, the Seward High School product turned in an 87 on the second day. Her 76-87–163 allowed her to share fourth place. She entered the day just two strokes off of first place.
It was a mostly frustrating day for everybody else in Bulldog blue. Junior Murphy Sears placed 18th (80-97–177) in spite of a tough second day. Next in line within the team’s group of five were freshman Britney Jepsen (91-104 – 195; 44th), junior Paighton Barbre (97-102–199; 50th) and freshman DJ Bokelman (97-107–204; 56th). Senior Madison Pitsch (106-103–209; 60th) also competed individually.
Next up for Concordia is the Midland Fall Invite on Sept. 10. The meet will take place at Fremont Golf Club in Fremont.
