SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The team score improved significantly on day two of the 2023 Lila Frommelt Fall Classic as four Bulldogs shot scores of 88 or lower on Thursday (Sept. 14) at Green Valley Golf Course in Sioux City, Iowa. Concordia University Women’s Golf carded a score of 341 on day two while rebounding from the 355 turned in on Wednesday at Two Rivers Golf Club in North Sioux City, S.D. Briar Cliff served as the host of the tournament, which featured 67 golfers from eight institutions.
Head Coach Brett Muller’s squad placed eighth out of 11 groupings at the Frommelt Classic. Morningside finished one stroke better than Iowa Western Community College for the title.
“After a very rough day yesterday, I thought we played much better today,” Muller said. “Today was a mental grind playing on greens that were aerified earlier this week. If you look at the team scores from today, we finished fourth. This was a small step forward for us, and we look to build off this at Buena Vista this weekend.”
Sophomore Maddie Lewis (Treynor, Iowa) headlined the tournament for Concordia. She shot 81-84–165 and placed in a tie for 13th place overall. The 81 Lewis shot on Wednesday represented a collegiate low. Next in line, sophomore Emery Custer carded an 82 in round two and climbed into the top 20 of the leaderboard. Strong scores were also turned in on Thursday by Mya Nurse (87) and Logan Eschliman (88). Eschliman was the team’s No. 3 performer in the tournament with a total of 92-88–180 (tied for 34th place).
Cheyenne, Wyo., native Jennifer Gillotti fired an 82 in round one and wound up tied for 40th overall. Nine Bulldogs competed at the tournament (complete scores listed below).
