Bulldogs compete at Bobcat Invite

7 OCT 2005

The women’s golf team competed at the Bobcat Invitational on Friday hosted by Peru State College. The meet was held at Table Creek Golf Course in Nebraska City.

The Bulldogs finished seventh in the eight team meet shooting a 468 as a team. It was somewhat of drop off as it was 34 strokes worse than Concordia’s last performance.

“We will continue to work on areas that need improvement prior to the final meet of the season,” said Head Coach Carl Everts. “The team, although somewhat inexperienced, has a great work ethic and is a pleasure to coach.”

Omaha Burke Freshman Natalie Swanda led the Bulldogs with a 111. Anna Hill and Molly McCree carded 114 and 115 respectively. Corrie Johnson rounded out the team scoring with a 128.

The Bulldogs will travel to Mitchell, S.D., on Thursday and Friday (Oct. 13 and 14) for the GPAC Championship Meet. Eleven conference schools will have teams competing at the meet.

Bulldogs earn points at GPAC meet

13-14 OCT 2005

The Concordia women’s golf team finished their season at the GPAC Championship Meet on Oct. 13 and 14 in Mitchell, S.D. The meet was hosted by Dakota Wesleyan University and played at Wild Oak Golf Club. Dakota Wesleyan claimed their fourth straight championship. The Bulldogs finished in 11th place.

Concordia posted their best 36-hole score of the season (884) in the final meet. Despite that fact, the Bulldogs still finished last out of all the teams competed. Head Coach Carl Everts was optimistic, as the team did accomplish one primary goal, finishing the meet. By finishing the team earned points for Concordia in the GPAC All-Sports Trophy race.

“We were able to post a team score at the conference meet,” said Everts. “It is important to finish and get a team score, especially entering the meet with only four players.”

The final round of the season also saw the Bulldogs net their best 18-hoe score of the season. Freshman Natalie Swanda once again led the Bulldogs, carding a 208, for 44th place. It was the fifth meet out of seven that Swanda has had the best score for Concordia.

“We improved this last meet,” added Everts. “But there is still much work to be done before next fall’s season.”

That work will start in March as the Bulldogs have spring practice under the guidance of assistant coaches Trish and Mark Croghan.

“The primary goal of spring golf will be to focus on individual improvement and prepare for the 2006 season,” stated Everts.

It is possible that the Bulldogs may compete in a couple of meets during the spring as well.
