SEWARD, Neb. – After two wins in the opening week of the 2023 season, Savannah Andrews has been named the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive player of the Week for women’s soccer as announced by the league on Tuesday (Aug. 29). Andrews, coming out of Gretna, Neb., bolstered three goals in two matches against Kansas Wesleyan University on Aug. 23 and Graceland University (Iowa) on Aug. 26. In her match against Kansas Wesleyan, Savannah scored her first multi-goal match in her short collegiate career. The Bulldogs defeated the Coyotes 4-1 in their season opener and on Saturday won in a tough match against the Yellow Jackets (2-1).
She now has seven career goals coming so close to matching her freshman campaign (four goals) in one week. This bodes well for the young Gretna High School product as she looks set to have a breakout season with only one week under her belt in her second year.
The sophomore has acquired more shot opportunities so far, as she shot nine times in two games putting six in front of the opposing keepers. She has started both games so far this season as the midfielder has totaled double digit (10) starts already early in her second season.
New head coach Nick Smith will look to go 2-0 on the week as the Bulldogs will be hosting York University (Aug. 30) and Tabor College (Sept. 2) at Bulldog Stadium. The match versus York is set for 8:00 p.m. CT.
