Big first half lifts Concordia to 3-0 win over Morningside College
The Concordia University women’s soccer team picked up its third straight win with a 3-0 victory over Morningside College on Saturday evening in Sioux City. The Bulldogs improved to 8-6-1 overall and 4-4-1 in GPAC play. Morningside dropped to 3-11-1 overall and 1-7-1 in GPAC play with the loss. Concordia scored all three goals in the opening half. The game was called at the 75-minute mark due to lightning.
Jamie Sanchez put Concordia on top with a goal just eight minutes into the game. Mallorie Blanck scored her seventh goal of the season in the 34th minute to increase the lead to 2-0. Hannah Denk was credited with her team-best eighth assists of the year on Blanck’s goal. Sanchez added another goal just a few minutes before halftime to push the lead to 3-0. Sanchez has scored nine goals on the season to lead the team.
Concordia held a 9-7 advantage in shots. Both teams had two corner kicks. Ariel Harris made two saves to pick up the win in goal. Shelby Hughes also saw action in goal for Concordia on the night. Felicia Reimann made three saves and allowed the three goals for Morningside. Alyssa Reed played the final 30 minutes in net for the Mustangs.
The Bulldogs visit Hastings College on October 26 at 5 pm.
