Bulldogs pick up 2-1 win over McPherson College
The Concordia University women’s soccer team picked up a 2-1 victory over McPherson College on Wednesday evening. The Bulldogs are 2-0 on the season, while McPherson College dropped to 0-1.
McPherson College took a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute of the first half. Amanda Aragon scored off an assist by Haley Cook to put the host Bulldogs in front.
With just over eight minutes remaining in the first half, Concordia’s Jamie Sanchez scored to tie the score at 1-1. Sanchez wasn’t done, and with just 10 seconds remaining in the half, she scored again off assists by Carolyn Chrzan and Kelly Ross to give Concordia a 2-1 lead entering the halftime break. Sanchez now has a team-high four goals on the year for the Bulldogs. Concordia controlled play in the opening half with a 10-3 advantage in shots.
Neither team could find the net in the second half. Concordia finished with 17 total shots (11 on goal), while McPherson College totaled nine shots (four on goal).
Ariel Harris made three saves to pick up her second win of the season in goal for Concordia. Sanchez totaled a game-high six shots, and Chrzan finished with four shots for the Bulldogs in the win. Molly Whitwell made nine saves in goal for McPherson College in a losing effort.
Concordia travels to Wayne State College on Saturday for a 3 pm contest against the Wildcats.
