Concordia to face Briar Cliff in GPAC Tournament
SEWARD, Neb. – The Concordia women’s soccer team has received the fifth seed in the GPAC Tournament. The Bulldogs will face fourth seeded Briar Cliff in Sioux City, Iowa on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. The match will have a webcast available HERE.
Greg Henson’s squad holds a 12-5-1, 6-4-1 GPAC record going into Thursday’s tilt. The last time Concordia was on the pitch was last Saturday, Oct. 31 when they welcomed Mount Marty College to Bulldog Stadium. CUNE shutout the Lancers, 5-0 in its fourth straight win.
The Chargers, led by head coach Pat Herbst, are 10-7-1, 6-4-1 GPAC this season. In two overtimes, Briar Cliff defeated Doane College, 3-2 last Saturday. The Chargers’ win was their fourth straight and sixth of their last seven.
In the latest meeting of the two squads, Concordia suffered a 0-1 loss from Briar Cliff. The contest was played at Bulldog Stadium on Oct. 17. Makenna Taylor, who is tied for the second most goals on the team, scored the lone goal for the Chargers.
As a team in the GPAC, the Bulldogs lead in goals allowed per game (0.72), rank second in shutouts per game (.50) and in total shutouts (9), rank third in assists per game (1.33), total assists (24) rank fourth in goals per game (2.17), total goals (39)
The semifinal round will be played Tuesday, Nov. 10. Should the Bulldogs win, they will play the winner of the first seeded Hastings and eighth seeded College of Saint Mary match. Location and time will be announced as they become available. Below is a full schedule of the GPAC Tournament.
