Concordia offense explodes in 8-1 win over Bethany College
The Concordia University women’s soccer team picked up an 8-1 victory over Bethany College on Saturday evening in Seward. The Bulldogs improved to 3-2 on the season with the win.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead early in the first half on a goal by Kelly Ross. Jamie Sanchez picked up the assist. Concordia took a 2-0 lead on a goal by Carolyn Chrzan later in the first half. The Bulldogs took the 2-0 lead into halftime.
Concordia padded its lead early in the second half. Mallorie Blanck scored off an assist by Chrzan to increase the Bulldog lead to 3-0. Chrzan then scored her second goal of the game to push the lead to 4-0. Less than three minutes later, Molly Humlicek scored her first goal of the season to give Concordia a 5-0 advantage. Hannah Denk had the assist on Humlicek’s goal.
The Bulldogs continued to pour it on. Blanck scored her second goal on the night to push the lead to 6-0. Denk and Sanchez had the assists. With just under 25 minutes remaining, Ross delivered her second goal of the game to increase the Concordia lead to 7-0.
Bethany College got on the board late in the second half. Megan Xavier scored for the Swedes to make the score 7-1. Concordia responded with a goal by Louisa Mehl with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game. Kyleah Bowder picked up the assist for the Bulldogs.
“It was nice to have a game where we connected with our teammates and had several scoring opportunities,” commented Concordia senior Carolyn Chrzan. “We look forward to developing some consistency and realizing we have the talent to take it to the next level.”
Concordia travels to Bellevue University on Sunday evening for a 7 pm match against the Bruins.
