Preister, Red Raiders wrecked by speedy Concordia forwards

SEWARD, Neb. – Charli Preister and the Dawgs remained in peak form, dishing out a whipping of Northwestern, 4-0, on Saturday (Oct. 24). Concordia University, Nebraska Women’s Soccer owned the Red Raiders, just shy of triple the number of shots (17-6) to their counterparts. Preister notched a brace with an assist in her debut at striker.

The Bulldogs have outscored their last two opponents, 13-0, keeping themselves in second place in the conference with an 8-1-1 (9-3-3 overall) GPAC record.

“We got better as the game wore on,” Head Coach Jason Weides said. “We honestly weren't up to our standard in the first 30 minutes. We worked our way into it and got better. We were aggressive in the press and aggressive in getting higher in the attack, which created chances. We also had some people playing new positions today. Charli played as a nine after being a great center back for us all year. She played a new role today and did great. We got a lot of people in, and it was a great team effort.”

Three first half scores made this contest feel out of with the Concordia lock down press present in the cage of Bulldog Stadium.

The first 20 minutes were a bit back and forth before the constricting defense made for light offense. In the 22nd minute, Abby Haynes tussled with a defender over possession in the Red Raider box, which earned a one-on-one goal opportunity for Guadalupe Sanchez. The team’s leading goal scorer (eight season) tagged the eventual game-winner in the bottom right corner.

In one of the most impressive goals of the season, Triniti Rowe whipped a corner kick toward the back post, placing the ball where only a high-flying Bulldog could reach. Rising above the crowd, Charli Preister soared and delivered a thunderous header into the top-right corner for an emphatic finish. Rowe and Preister connected only four minutes later for a second goal. The Columbus High alum shot seven times in her move to forward from centerback.

“It was definitely interesting,” Preister said about the move to the offensive position. “I didn't really know what I was doing at first, but I figured it out as we went along. It's something new, and I still have a lot of learning to do, but I'm excited. My teammates are the ones getting me there, so credit to them. It always feels good to score.”

Preister would be on the front end of the final tally by the Bulldogs as Haynes made the most of the inches of space to bury one in the back of the net.

All 11 consistently made it difficult for Northwestern to get shots off. The visitors made three attempts on target in the 90 minutes compared to the Bulldogs’ eight. Aaliyah Matthews and Aliya Vidro combined for a team shutout with three total saves.

With Preister moved forward, the back line and keepers didn’t lose a step. Captain Evie Keller and company claimed their seventh shutout of the season.

CUNE has been unable to defeat in the Red Raiders in the past two years, despite having better teams on the table in 2024 (4-3) and 2025 (3-3).

Concordia will host its final regular season contest against Midland (1-12-1, 1-7-1 GPAC) on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will take the field at 5:30 p.m. CT inside Bulldog Stadium. The Seward roster defeated the Warriors, 4-0, in Fremont in 2025.
