Denk nets hat trick, Bulldogs win pair

The Concordia University, Nebraska women's soccer team picked up its first win of the season on Tuesday defeating York College, 4-0. The Bulldogs' winning ways continued on Friday with a 2-0 victory over Ottawa University.
Freshman Hannah Denk scored the first goal of the season for the Bulldogs in the 42nd minute against York. Denk finished the game with a hat trick, scoring two more goals.
Despite not putting the goal in the net herself, sophomore Carolyn Chrzan had a hand in each of the Bulldogs goals, assisting on all of Denks goal along with Bethia Barone's goal.
Barone capped the scoring against the Panthers of York with a goal with 21 minutes remaining. As a team Concordia out-shot York 24-1 for the game. Junior goalkeeper Sara Webb turned away the only shot the Panthers sent her way.
In Friday's match against Ottawa University freshman Sarah Hoffmann scored her first goal as a Bulldog 22 minutes into the contest off an assist from Hannah Denk. Barone continued to find the back of the net, scoring with nine minutes left in the game.
Webb garnered her second shutout of the week, finishing with three saves on the night. Again the Bulldogs out-shot their opponent (18-8).
The Bulldogs look to extend their winning streak to three games on Sept. 11 as they travel down the interstate to take on College of St. Mary at 5 p.m.
Chrzan scores two goals, Bulldogs fall in GPAC opener

The Concordia University, Nebraska women's soccer team dropped a pair of games last week, falling 3-0 to College of St. Mary in Omaha, Neb., on Tuesday before dropping a 4-2 contest to the Dordt College Defenders on Saturday in Sioux Center, Iowa.
It looked as if the Bulldogs (2-5-0, 0-1-0 GPAC) were in control against Dordt as Carolyn Chrzan scored in the eighth minute. Bethia Barone had the assist on the goal.
Chrzan broke a 1-1 tie, giving the Bulldogs the lead in the 48th minute, scoring her second goal of the game, this one unassisted.
But the Defenders came storming back, scoring a flurry of goals, including a pair during a two-minute time span from the 50th minute to the 52nd. The Dordt game winner was scored by Sarah Sikkea. The Defenders added an insurance goal late in the game.
Dordt outshot the Bulldogs 24-8 in the contest. Concordia goalie Sara Webb finished with double digits in saves (10).
The Bulldogs are schedule to return to Bulldog Stadium on Tuesday to take on Midland Lutheran College at 5 p.m.
Still seeking first GPAC win

The Concordia University, Nebraska women's soccer team suffered a pair of setbacks during the past week, falling 1-0 to Midland Lutheran College and 2-0 to Northwestern College. The Bulldogs are still looking for their first GPAC win.
Against Midland at Bulldog Stadium the contest was called with 8:18 remaining because of lightning in the area. The squads tried to wait out the storm, waiting for almost an hour for clear skies, but the storm persisted and forced the decision to call the game.
In order for a game to become official in soccer the teams must have played at least 75 minutes, which was the case in this instance.
Concordia (10-7, 0-3 GPAC) was playing an even game with the Warriors, keeping pace in the shot department. Midland finished the game with 11 shots compared to eight for the Bulldogs.
What proved to be the game winning goal was scored during the 57th minute by Natasha Heil for Midland.
Bulldog goalie Sara Webb had her hands full on the road against the Red Raiders of Northwestern on Saturday. Webb finished with nine saves, but faced 25 shots on the afternoon. The Bulldogs were able to fire just eight shots during the game.
The next action for Concordia comes on Wednesday as the Bulldogs travel down the interstate to take on Nebraska Wesleyan in Lincoln, Neb., at 6 p.m.
Bulldogs tame DWU Tigers

The Concordia University, Nebraska women's soccer team nearly pulled off a sweep during "Wesleyan Week" as the Bulldogs fell on a last second goal to Nebraska Wesleyan, 2-1, during the week before defeating Dakota Wesleyan, 4-1, on Saturday night at Bulldog Stadium.
The mid-week battle with the Prairie Wolves started out with freshman Molly Millard putting the Bulldogs up 1-nill just 20 minutes into the game, scoring on a corner kick.
Nebraska Wesleyan tied the game six minutes into the second half on a goal by Alison Frohn. It seemed as if that would be on the only goal of the second half as neither team was able to convert their scoring chances.
However, with just four seconds remaining on the clock Brooke Woodward was able to find the back of the net, giving Nebraska Wesleyan the win. According to Concordia Head Coach Rob Giesbrecht the Bulldogs put up a good fight.
"It was a very tough way to end a good battle," Giesbrecht said. "We fought hard throughout the game and defended well at times, but Nebraska Wesleyan is an athletic team that can be dangerous on set pieces and we were punished for not marking tight enough on a freekick and then broke down late in the game to allow their player to get behind us."
Giesbrecht was quick to point out the play of freshman Sarah Hoffman.
"Sarah was fantastic throughout the match," Giesbrecth added. "She was a physical force and most of our positive play came as a result of her work."
The Bulldogs bounced back from the heartbreaking loss with their first conference victory, a 4-1 win over Dakota Wesleyan at home on Saturday. In the win Millard added a pair of goals, bringing her season total to three, tied for second most on the team.
Other Bulldogs with goals included Hanna Denk and Carolyn Chrzan. Chrzan leads the team with four goals on the season.
Concordia is back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 2nd as they take on Hastings College at 5 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium.
Bulldogs drop double overtime contest

The Concordia University, Nebraska women's soccer team dropped a marathon match last Wednesday against the Doane College Tigers, 2-1, in double overtime. The Bulldogs also dropped a contest, 2-0, to Briar Cliff on Saturday in Sioux City, Iowa.
Doane jumped out to an early lead, scoring just 51 seconds into the game. Concordia tied things up with a goal in the 33rd minute by Freshman Hannah Denk, which was assisted by Sarah Hoffman. It was the fifth goal of the season by Denk.
Neither team was able to score the rest of the way, as Bulldog goalie Sara Webb turned the Tigers away 13 times in the game, six in the second half and overtime.
Samantha Exstrom scored her second goal of the game for Doane, the game winner, in the second overtime.
Against Briar Cliff the Bulldogs were unable to get on the board, as the Chargers downed the Bulldogs 2-0.
Concordia was scheduled to take on Dana College in Blair, Neb., on Tuesday, but because of heavy rains and the field being unplayable in Blair, the game has been moved to Bulldog Stadium at 6 p.m.
Dogs drop pair on week

The Concordia University, Nebraska women's soccer team dropped struggles in conference play continued this past week, dropping a pair of games to Dana, 4-2, and Morningside, 2-0.
Concordia (4-13-0, 2-9-0 GPAC) continues to get goals from freshman, with both the goals scored by a first year player this week.
Against Dana, in an unexpected home game, the Bulldogs fell behind early, allowing three goals in the first 28 minutes of play. All of the goals were scored by different player for the Vikings.
The game was moved to Bulldog Stadium because of heavy rains and the field being unplayable in Blair, Neb.
Concordia mounted a comeback, getting pair goals by freshman Hannah Denk in the second half. The second goal by Denk was assisted by Molly Millard. Denk leads the Bulldogs with eight goals on the season.
Dana added an insurance goal with just less than six minutes remaining in the game.
On Saturday the Bulldogs were able to hang close with Morningside. The Mustangs came into the game with a perfect record in GPAC play and had lost just two games all season.
Kristina Wong found the back of the net for Morningside in the 26th minute to give the Mustangs a 1-0 advantage. Abby Bull put the game out of reach, scoring in the 64th minute.
As a team the Bulldogs were out-shot by Morningside 21-11. Sara Webb finished with four saves for Concordia.
Concordia plays their final game of the season next Saturday, taking on Mount Marty at home. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Chrzan nets hat trick in season finale

The Concordia University, Nebraska women's soccer team ended its season on a high note with 6-2 win over Mount Marty College in front of a senior/parent's night crowd on Saturday night at Bulldog Stadium in Seward.
Concordia finishes the season with an overall record of 5-13-0 (3-9-0 GPAC). The Bulldogs featured a young squad, with only four upperclassmen and were hurt early in the season by injuries.
The lone senior on the squad, Shelly Davis, finished the game with three saves. But it was the Bulldog offense that erupted on Saturday with six goals.
Freshman Hannah Denk opened the scoring for the Bulldogs 25 minutes into the match scoring off an assist from fellow freshman Molly Hein. Just 25 seconds later Carolyn Chrzan put Concordia up 2-0 off a pass from Amber Dirks.
Denk added another goal, her team-leading 10th of the season, 20 minutes into the second half to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 cushion.
The Lancer of Mount Marty made things interesting, getting a pair of goals in just less than three minutes to pull within one with 15 minutes remaining in regulation.
Concordia or more aptly, Chrzan answered, scoring two of the Bulldogs three goals in the final 15 minutes to garner the hat trick. Hein also got into the action, scoring her first goal of the season on an assist from Chrzan with 64 seconds left in the game.
