The leadership group has begun to be reshaped as the program works on building an identity for the 2022 season. Captains Allee Downing and Grace Soenksen helped lead that process as part of a productive spring for Head Coach Thomas Goines' squad.
Gritty defensive performances and one-goal games were the story in 2021 for the Bulldogs, who competed closely with everyone in the GPAC. Concordia finished 9-7-2 overall while being led by an accomplished senior class.
Grace Soenksen garnered First Team All-GPAC honors for a second year in a row while Madeline Haugen found herself on the second team. A total of five Bulldogs were honored on the all-conference list.
Mikeila Martinez and Michaela Twito represented the Concordia Women's Soccer program on the Academic All-District Team released on Thursday by CoSIDA. Martinez and Twito excel both athletically and academically.
In a rivalry matchup between Concordia and Hastings, the Broncos saw out a 1-0 victory on Thursday (Nov. 4) as part of the GPAC quarterfinals. The Bulldogs had hoped to duplicate their conference championship run from the spring.
The Bulldogs will go up against a familiar postseason rival on Thursday when they travel to Hastings. Concordia hopes to rekindle the magic it had in the spring when it made a GPAC tournament championship run.
On a water-logged night in Crete, a goal from Michaela Twito in the 44th minute was enough to lift the Bulldogs to a 1-0 win over Doane. Concordia will head into the postseason at 9-6-2 overall (6-4-2 GPAC).
With plenty of possibilities remaining in terms of GPAC seeding, the Bulldogs will attempt to close the regular season with a positive result at Doane. Concordia has won eight-straight meetings over the Tigers.
In what may have been the final home game in the careers of several Bulldogs, Concordia came away with a 2-0 victory over Presentation. Bulldog goals were delivered by Grace Soenksen and Madeline Haugen.
The attacking exploits of Flor Suarez sunk the Bulldogs on Wednesday (Oct. 20) as they went up against GPAC leading Briar Cliff. Concordia played in Sioux City, Iowa, the hometown of Allee Downing.
On paper, the 2015 season looked like somewhat of a rebuilding year for Concordia University women’s soccer following a GPAC tournament championship season in 2014. The Bulldogs had graduated a pair of first team all-conference choices and a second team all-league selection after the program had earned its first-ever national tournament bid.
Concordia University women’s soccer continues to gravitate to new heights. On Tuesday the Bulldogs jumped five spots in the national poll to No. 16, a position that again ranks as the highest placement in program history.
