SEWARD, Neb. – The Concordia University women’s tennis team notched their first victory. In action on Saturday (Sept. 12), the Bulldogs defeated NCAA D-II William Jewell College 5-2.
This is the Bulldogs second straight win over the Cardinals as Concordia blanked William Jewell last year 7-0.
From a team scoring perspective, the Bulldogs took four of the six singles matches. The tightest individual match occurred at No. 3 singles where senior Ansley Gates defeated Michaela Esau 6-2 and 6-3. Freshman Sofia Morales won at the No. 2 spot, 7-5 and 6-0. Additional singles victors were senior Katie Seja at No. 4 and sophomore Madi Smith at No. 6.
The Concordia combos in doubles play featured Viera and Morales at No. 1, Seja and senior Allison Marshall at No. 2 and junior Luisa Esquivel and Smith at No. 3.
William Jewell (0-1) competes as a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
The Bulldogs are scheduled back in action on September 18 as they compete in the GPAC Individual Tournament in Lincoln, Nebraska.
