SEWARD, Neb. – Concordia University, Nebraska secured a 5-2 team victory over College of Saint Mary on Friday (April 17) at Walz Fieldhouse, continuing its strong run through GPAC play. The Bulldogs have won five consecutive matches and seven of their last eight. Alexa Richert clinched the match win.

The Bulldogs (15-5, 6-1 GPAC) claimed four of six singles matches to take control late. With the 15 wins, CUNE has tied the second most wins in a season in the program’s history.

“Proud of our team,” Head Coach Lisa Hard said. Our players are very determined to finish this season as strong as we possibly can. I think we are peaking at the right time and we are excited for our conference tournament next week!”

Chakira Derman delivered a steady performance at No. 2 singles, earning a 6-4, 6-1 win, while Ishane Derman followed with a 6-3, 6-4 decision at No. 3.

At the bottom of the lineup, Concordia sealed the team win with dominant outings from Alexa Richert and Nina Milic. Richert handled her No. 5 match, 6-3, 6-2, and Milic cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 6.

In doubles action, the Bulldogs picked up wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. The duo of Chakira Derman and Alana Lopez Pagan earned a convincing 6-1 victory, while Milic and Richert matched that scoreline to give Concordia momentum heading into singles.

CSM (8-3, 3-3 GPAC) picked up its points at No. 1 singles and No. 4 singles, along with the top doubles match, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Concordia’s depth throughout the lineup.

The Bulldogs continue to position themselves near the top of the conference standings at No. 2 with just one GPAC loss on the season.

Concordia (15-5, 6-1 GPAC) will wait to see the team it will face in the semifinals of the GPAC tournament. The Seward roster has earned a first-round bye for the playoff that will be played on April 23 and 25. Genesis Health Club in Omaha, Neb., will be the host of the postseason bracket.
