SEWARD, Neb. – Concordia University, Nebraska dominated Baker University (Kan.) in a 7-0 sweep in a women’s tennis dual on Saturday (March 1) at the Walz Fieldhouse. The Bulldogs showcased their depth and precision, winning all contested singles and doubles matches while capitalizing on three forfeits from the Wildcats.

CUNE pushes their record to 4-1 overall with a three-match win streak.

"Really proud of the girls to come out strong, " said Coach Hart. "We got ahead early. Won the doubles point and that set the tone for the rest of the match. It was good to see many have individual wins while also getting the team win. We are growing with every match and it's great to see their hunger translate to results."

In singles play, Alana Lopez Pagan clinched a decisive point for Concordia, blanking Baker’s Jordan Grabast 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 with a commanding performance. Chakira Derman followed suit, overpowering Abigail Linn 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2, displaying relentless consistency. Ishane Derman mirrored that scoreline at No. 3, defeating Clare Langfoss 6-1, 6-0 with similar dominance.

Mariana Molano capped the singles effort at No. 1, edging the Wildcats’ Dayna Steadman 7-6 (5), 6-4 in a match that featured a tense first-set tiebreak before Molano pulled away. Baker forfeited the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches, handing wins to Alexa Richert and Tessa Blough, respectively.

The doubles portion was just as lopsided. Tessa Blough and Alexa Richert opened with a 6-2 victory over Grabast and Langfoss at No. 2, setting the tone. Chakira Derman and Alana Lopez Pagan then sealed the top flight, defeating Linn and Steadman 6-2 with sharp teamwork. The Wildcats' inability to field a third doubles team resulted in a forfeit, giving Nina Milic and Lauren Gottberg the point without hitting a ball.

Concordia’s relentless performance highlighted their superiority across the board, while BU struggled with a shorthanded roster. The Wildcats could not muster a point, as the Bulldogs executed with consistency and power. Concordia swept boosted their early-season record, while Baker aims to bounce back.

Looking ahead, the Bulldogs will face Friends University (1-0) in Kansas on March 7. Concordia’s tennis team (4-1) is keen to maintain their momentum and continue their winning ways as they progress through the season.
